Company Need:
Cargill’s integrated soybean crush and refined oils facility in Sidney, Ohio, originally opened in 1978, and the oil refinery was added a decade later. Cargill wants to better serve area farmers and meet growing demand for protein and refined oils.
Why Ohio?
The company will invest approximately $225 million to modernize operations and expand its existing Sidney facility to crush capacity. The expansion will provide Cargill’s adjacent refined oils facility with a larger, direct supply of crude soybean oil.
Food and agribusiness is the largest industry in Ohio and the state is the sixth largest producer of soybeans in the U.S. Ohio’s food leadership gives food and agribusiness companies proximity to and relationships with industry partners, resulting in faster, more affordable access to every part of the value chain.
The investment increases market access for farmers’ crops in the area and allows those farmers to deliver their soybeans more efficiently. Cargill’s expansion will directly and indirectly impact the local community’s economy with construction jobs, more deliveries and a boost to regional agricultural.
