The untold story of smart mobility, autonomous vehicle research and innovation
Ohio has a unique combination of resources that support smart mobility innovation. The state hosts an unparalleled mix of physical assets, research partners, controlled and open-road test facilities, smart city initiatives and funding opportunities. The Transportation Research Center (TRC) is the largest independent automotive proving grounds in North America. TRC recently announced a $45 million investment to build a 540-acre Smart Mobility Advanced Research and Test (SMART) Center to develop autonomous and connected vehicles. TRC operates 24/7 with approximately 4,500 acres of road courses and simulates driving conditions while testing safety, energy, fuel economy, emissions, durability, noise, crash simulation, performance and more on a wide range of vehicles, equipment and surfaces. TRC is less than 40 minutes from Columbus and 2.5 hours from Detroit. It is closely aligned with The Ohio State University, and its experts in advanced automotive technology. See more examples here.
