CLEVELAND – The JobsOhio Board of Directors held its quarterly public meeting in Cleveland at the Global Center for Health Innovation. The meeting included a review of the independent performance assessment of JobsOhio along with updates on healthcare and the Northeast Ohio region.
JobsOhio President and Chief Investment Officer John Minor highlighted the performance assessment conducted by McKinsey & Co. “Our Board strongly believes periodic, independent performance assessments of JobsOhio are good corporate governance and help us evaluate the organization’s results and health,” said Minor. “When compared to peer state economic development organizations, JobsOhio consistently performed in or near the top five across core performance metrics.”
Minor said the assessment showed JobsOhio’s leading performance in transparency, operating model, incentive returns and funding efficiency when compared to peers. He noted that the report also identifies competitive headwinds as well as opportunities and considerations that can help drive JobsOhio’s future performance.
During an industry update, JobsOhio Senior Managing Director for Healthcare Aaron Pitts highlighted Ohio’s assets and talent, which help innovative healthcare companies like Inogen and Abeona Therapeutics succeed in Cleveland. Inogen CEO Scott Wilkinson discussed how the California company chose to grow in Brooklyn, where it produces innovative oxygen therapy products; and Abeona Therapeutics President and Chief Scientific Officer Tim Miller discussed his company’s work to treat and cure children’s genetic diseases from the Midtown Tech Park.
Team NEO Chief Executive Officer Bill Koehler provided a regional update that highlighted the strategy to align economic development partners’ efforts on winning projects. He said close cooperation with JobsOhio and local partners was essential in securing recent wins from Union Metal in Canton and Spray Production in Medina, which brought commitments of 250 and 37 jobs respectively.
