JobsOhio Enters into Agreement with Breeze Airways

Increasing air service is an essential component of economic development.

Fri May 21 2021

JobsOhio is pleased to announce it has entered into an agreement with Breeze Airways in two Ohio markets, Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) and John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH), with service scheduled to begin in June 2021.

JobsOhio enters into this agreement with Breeze Airways to increase air service and competition. This will improve the ability to attract and retain businesses—key components of the economic development mission of JobsOhio.

Today, the competition for air service is fierce as airlines have downsized fleets and routes. The JobsOhio Air Service Restoration program allows Ohio to attract new air service and restore air service lost during the COVID-19 pandemic ahead of other communities across the U.S. This effort supports the JobsOhio sectors while having a direct impact to the tourism and hospitality industries hard hit by the pandemic.

About Breeze Air

Launched by David Neeleman, Breeze Airways is an ultra low-cost carrier, focused on point-to-point service. Coined as the world’s nicest airline, Breeze service is flexible, nimble and offers only non-stop service. Markets served from Akron-Canton include Charleston, New Orleans and Tampa while service from Columbus includes Charleston, New Orleans, Norfolk, Tampa and Hartford.

Economic Impact

Fifty of the top Ohio employers across multiple JobsOhio sectors maintain more than 33 thousand jobs and 430 facilities in locations across the eight routes served by Breeze Airlines from Ohio.

Select company highlights associated with the new destinations announced:

  • More than 30 combined Bridgestone and Goodyear facilities
  • Three of the four largest banking sector employers in Ohio comprising more than 30 combined facilities
  • Five combined Honda and Ford facilities
  • Facilities of several manufacturing employers including 17 General Electric facilities as well as facilities for Emerson Electric and Honeywell

Today’s announcement includes eight new routes for a total of 22 planned flights per week. Breeze Airway’s new air service is estimated to have a total economic impact of over $140 million on Ohio’s economy.
