Intel Breaks Ground in Ohio

All eyes are on Ohio as Intel breaks ground at the center of the Silicon Heartland. The momentous occasion will be celebrated by Intel, Ohioans, and the entire nation. President Biden will be in attendance to deliver remarks on rebuilding American manufacturing through the CHIPS and Science Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

In addition to putting shovels in the ground, it is expected that Intel will announce the plans it has for investing in colleges and universities across the state of Ohio that will support and fill the talent pipeline for generations.

In January, Intel announced that it would be onshoring thousands of jobs by building its most advanced semiconductor manufacturing facility in Ohio. Since then, JobsOhio has been hard at work helping to bring the generational opportunity to life by securing jobs for thousands of Ohioans and recalibrating manufacturing in the United States.

Building a Talent Pipeline

Work is already underway to build a sustained talent pipeline to support the 3,000 jobs needed in Ohio. JobsOhio is supporting Intel with candidate recruitment marketing, events, and sourcing and pre-screening services through 2025. Engineers, technicians and other administrative roles will be filled with an average wage for the 3,000 jobs of $135,000.

Intel plans to make significant investments over the next decade in partnership with Ohio universities, community colleges and the U.S. National Science Foundation. This investment in talent means that skilled workers will relocate to Ohio, and Ohio students, young people, and families will stay here.

Regional Impacts

The impact of the Intel project is being felt well beyond Central Ohio. More than 169 existing Ohio businesses across the state are already a part of Intel’s supply chain, and the project is expected to bring additional new businesses to Ohio to support the supply chain.

Intel is bringing an entirely new industry sector in Ohio with a statewide impact, one that will supply and provide opportunity to businesses throughout Ohio. The magnitude of this tech investment is the first of its kind anywhere in the Midwest and puts Ohio on the map for the entire technology industry.

Intel’s investment in America

Intel decided to expand their chip manufacturing operations, and Ohio stepped up. Leveraging the competitive advantages of JobsOhio, Intel and Ohio were able to move at the speed of business. Intel’s planned state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ohio will be their most hi-tech manufacturing campus, yet. And building in Ohio will create an unprecedented shift in the semiconductor industry.

Intel is the largest economic development event in Ohio’s history. Its effects will be felt in the state for years to come, creating opportunities for Ohioans for generations. It also represents a turning point for U.S. manufacturing, as a proof point for the growing call to bring manufacturing operations back to the U.S. to alleviate logistical challenges, lessen the reliance on foreign workers and better serve North American customers with open and secure supply chains.

Chips play a role in all aspects of life, but are especially important for national security applications such as communications, command and control systems, targeting systems, radar systems, and autonomous systems (drones), aviation, GPS and satellite operations, and more. Bringing the production of this important technology back to the U.S. means a safer nation and a more secure future.

Intel is a U.S.-based company committed to the highest standards of environmental responsibility and sustainability. The new site will be designed and constructed with green building principles, and the new factories have a goal to be powered by 100% renewable electricity, achieve net positive water use, and achieve zero total waste to landfill in support of Intel’s 2030 sustainability goals.
