Company Need:
The COVID-19 influenced the surging demand for medical and non-medical latex-free nitrile gloves, resulting in critical shortages. U.S. medical facilities and businesses across industries are dependent on foreign suppliers. Most glove manufacturing occurs in Malaysia, with other suppliers also based in the Asia Pacific region. Less than one percent of U.S. demand for nitrile gloves is produced domestically, according to IndustryWeek.
Demand for surgical gloves continues to grow. By material, nitrile dominates the global glove market with a 54.6% market share, primarily due to its increased usage in medical applications, according to a report by Research and Markets.
To help meet the surging demand for medical and non-medical latex-free nitrile gloves, newly launched Ohio-based American Nitrile sought to build the most advanced U.S. manufacturing facility dedicated to producing nitrile gloves for healthcare, government, and industrial use. The facility will meet the surging demand and doing it from the U.S.
Why Ohio?
American Nitrile is establishing its operations in the Columbus Region where Jacob Block, its founder and CEO, originated. In Ohio, the company has access to a large workforce and many logistics advantages so it can efficiently ship its products to many customers.
Ohio is a well-established base for companies moving goods around the globe, being just a one-day drive from more than 60 percent of U.S. and Canadian populations. Major cities, including Chicago, New York City, and Toronto, are easily accessible via air, rail, and road. Among the nation’s leading trucking and storing goods, Ohio’s north coast on Lake Erie includes a groundbreaking shipping service linking the Industrial Midwest, the Port of Toledo, and the Great Lakes to Europe.
American Nitrile has secured assistance from JobsOhio in the form of a $3.5 million economic development grant for fixed asset investments and infrastructure and is participating in a Talent Acquisition Services program managed by JobsOhio on behalf of the company.
To streamline and kickstart production, American Nitrile has secured an exclusive North America partnership with Luster Industries (LTER.KL), a publicly listed, global industry-leading OEM with responsibility for sourcing, manufacturing, installing, and maintaining the product lines. American Nitrile’s manufacturing facility will leverage Industry 4.0 principles, including machine-to-machine communication to increase automation and self-diagnosis.
