Italian Energy Industry Leader Westrafo opens its new manufacturing facility in the United States
A new production site in Trotwood, Ohio, marks a strategic step in strengthening Westrafo’s presence in the U.S. energy market.
Trotwood, Ohio, October 9, 2025 – Westrafo America, a privately held Italian manufacturer of power transformers and energy solutions, opens its new U.S. operational facility, located at 6214 Wolf Creek Pike, Trotwood, Ohio.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 9th was attended by about 250 guests, including customers, suppliers and many local authorities. The event featured guided tours of the new facility, allowing participants to see the production process up close, as well as presentations highlighting Westrafo America’s vision, capabilities, and commitment to the U.S. market — underscoring the strong interest and support of the business community and local authorities.
The launch of the American facility represents a strategic milestone in Westrafo’s ongoing growth and international expansion, with the goal of reinforcing its presence in the renewable energy sector across the United States. Westrafo America has been launched with an initial investment of $15M, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding in the United States.
The new site joins Westrafo’s existing production facilities in Vicenza, Italy, and Tema, Ghana, enhancing the company’s ability to meet rising energy demand in the U.S. - both in terms of new infrastructure and the modernization of existing systems - while ensuring more responsive and efficient service for local customers.
“Building on the principles that have guided our growth, such as innovation, sustainability, and strong customer focus, we believe it is crucial to invest in the country that is focusing more than any other on the development of an efficient and sustainable grid,” said Westrafo CEO Alberto Cracco.
Covering over 233,000 square feet on a 17-acre site, the new plant focuses on the production of medium-voltage transformers and integrated energy solutions. The State of Ohio was selected for its highly skilled workforce and its operational and logistical synergies with the company’s Italian headquarters.
“We are particularly proud to have chosen the city of Trotwood for our investment, as it enabled us to become operational in less than 14 months from signing the agreement,” said Westrafo CEO Alberto Cracco. “As CEO, I am convinced that this decision represents a unique opportunity to strengthen our leadership position, enhance our know-how, and offer U.S. customers the quality and reliability that define us. We know that challenges will arise, but we look to the future with enthusiasm, confident that this new chapter will bring value both to the company and to the local community.”
“Ohio’s energy sector continues to grow at a rapid pace, and the opening of Westrafo’s first U.S. facility in Trotwood is a testament to that momentum,” said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. “The state’s robust manufacturing workforce will now get to work on building the transformers that power our diverse economy.”
The new facility is expected to have a significant local impact, generating 230 new jobs and reaching an annual production capacity of 12 GW by 2027, contributing actively to the evolution of the U.S. power distribution network.
“Westrafo sought a growth partner that could move quickly, provide access to a skilled workforce, and was near its U.S. customers,” said JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef. “Trotwood places Westrafo in the heart of America’s Energy Super Sector and offers the talent, innovation and market access needed to power its next chapter of growth."
The site, at 6214 Wolf Creek Pike, Trotwood, will continue Ohio’s growth in the renewable energy industry and provide the fast-growing company with direct access to the U.S. market.
