Mayor Morgan, AT&T and JobsOhio Celebrate Broadband Milestone and Laptop Giveaway in East Cleveland

Published: June 23, 2026

AT&T has nearly completed a public-private project to launch AT&T Fiber in the City of East Cleveland

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio, June 23, 2026 – AT&T Fiber is now available to more than 9,000 new residential and business locations in East Cleveland. This will give more residents access to fast, reliable internet built to handle the growing data demand for homes and businesses.

The milestone was announced today during an event highlighting the importance and availability of broadband connectivity, hosted by Mayor Sandra Morgan at the East Cleveland Public Library.

“This announcement marks a transformational investment in the future of East Cleveland,” said Mayor Morgan. “AT&T Fiber high-speed internet connects us to our neighbors around the corner and around the world. It provides the stable framework for greater business agility, and it lays the groundwork for a smarter East Cleveland focused on practical sustainability and the integration of digital technology into our existing civic ecosystems.”

When the project is completed later this year, AT&T Fiber will be available to more than 12,000 locations in East Cleveland.

The public-private collaboration represents a nearly $6 million investment from AT&T, JobsOhio and the City of East Cleveland, aimed at expanding broadband access to more residents and creating new economic opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses.

“Reliable broadband internet plays a critical role in creating opportunity and improving quality of life,” said Ohio Department of Development Director Lydia Mihalik. “From education and healthcare to starting a business and staying connected with loved ones, high-speed internet is essential to succeeding in today’s economy. That’s why Ohio continues working to expand reliable broadband access to communities across the state.”

East Cleveland officials used federal funds made available by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 to help bring fiber internet to the area. Under the agreement signed in December 2024, East Cleveland contributed $1 million in public funds to the project and AT&T covered $3 million. Team NEO connected JobsOhio to the project to help facilitate a $1.9 million JobsOhio Ohio Site Inventory Program (OSIP) grant in support of the fiber connection.

Also speaking at today’s event were JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef, Team NEO CEO Matt Dolan, and David Lewis, President of AT&T’s Heartland States.

“For years, East Cleveland has watched as investments and infrastructure upgrades went elsewhere, and now residents and businesses are connecting to the information economy for the first time,” said JobsOhio President and CEO J.P. Nauseef. “By delivering high-speed fiber connectivity, this partnership is dialing the community into stronger economic opportunity and a more competitive future.”

Additionally, AT&T today announced the donation of 50 refurbished laptops to East Cleveland residents who completed digital literacy training courses at the East Cleveland Public Library. The giveaway is part of AT&T’s initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.

“We’re excited to bring AT&T Fiber to East Cleveland and give residents access to the fast, reliable internet that we’re known for,” said AT&T Heartland States President David Lewis. “Our investment in East Cleveland is about meeting the city’s growing connectivity needs with more fiber availability, more capacity, and an internet experience customers can count on. We are grateful to Mayor Morgan, Director Mihalik and Jobs Ohio for their commitment to connecting East Cleveland, which opens up economic opportunities and lays the groundwork for continued community growth.”
