IMPLAN has been the standard tool for academic and professional economists for decades. Major corporations, universities, government agencies, and economic development organizations across the country rely on IMPLAN for rigorous economic analysis. The methods used to produce IMPLAN's economic datasets and impact estimates have been widely published in professional publications and peer-reviewed academic journals and are considered standard best practices in applied economic fields.
IMPLAN utilizes the Multi-Regional Input-Output (MRIO) methodology to show how the linkages of industries, households, and government in the economy are connected through buy-sell relationships. By modeling changes by these actors, IMPLAN demonstrates the ripple effect throughout Ohio's economy for each year analyzed. Each year, IMPLAN collects and organizes data from authoritative sources, including the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau, and other federal and state agencies.
To comply with standard best practices, IMPLAN economists modeled each of the 4,275 JobsOhio projects individually as Events in the year in which they occurred, using IMPLAN datasets from the specific year construction and operations took place. This provides a granular and accurate analysis of economic impacts over time. The studies modeled both construction spending impacts and ongoing operations impacts separately to capture the full economic effect of each project.
All results presented in the IMPLAN reports are adjusted to 2025 dollars to ensure consistency in reporting and comparison across the 14-year study period. IMPLAN's analysis accounts for regional differences in economic structure, with multipliers calculated using each region's unique industry mix, supply chain relationships, and household spending patterns captured in IMPLAN's MRIO analysis.
