Hyphen Innovations: Keeping Pace in the Aerospace Race

Published: April 02, 2026

Company Profile

Founded in 2022, Hyphen Innovations is an emerging aerospace and defense technology company developing advanced engineering solutions for high-performance systems. Based in the Dayton region—home to one of the nation’s most concentrated aerospace ecosystems—the company focuses on additive manufacturing, structural testing, and advanced materials engineering for demanding aerospace applications.

Led by founder and CEO Onome Scott-Emuakpor, the company builds on decades of turbine engine research and development experience, including work at the Air Force Research Laboratory. Hyphen Innovations specializes in designing and manufacturing components capable of operating in extreme environments such as high heat, vibration, and mechanical stress.

Using advanced manufacturing techniques, including metal 3D printing, the company develops components and systems that improve durability and reduce vibration in high-performance machinery. Its proprietary damping technology, integrated directly into metal parts through additive manufacturing, can significantly extend component life while improving reliability in aerospace, defense, and mobility applications.

The Challenge

As Hyphen Innovations gained traction with aerospace and defense partners, the young company began experiencing increased sales activity and a growing pipeline of research and engineering projects.

Demand for next-generation propulsion technologies—particularly those focused on turbine engines and hybrid-electric aircraft systems—created opportunities for Hyphen Innovations to support customers developing new aviation platforms.

To pursue these opportunities and position itself for future contracts, the company needed to expand its operational capacity. This included investing in specialized engineering software and acquiring additional metal additive manufacturing equipment to accelerate prototyping and production of advanced aerospace components.

Expanding these capabilities would allow Hyphen Innovations to shorten development cycles, test new materials more quickly, and manufacture complex parts needed for next-generation propulsion systems.

The Solution

Hyphen Innovations partnered with JobsOhio to support its continued growth.

Assistance from the JobsOhio Small Business Grant program helped the company offset the cost of equipment and technology investments. The $25,000 grant supported the acquisition of advanced manufacturing tools that enhance Hyphen’s ability to design, test, and manufacture high-performance aerospace components.

These upgrades strengthened the company’s capabilities in several key areas, including additive manufacturing of critical engine components, advanced materials research, and repair and sustainment solutions for turbine engines.

As Hyphen Innovations continues to grow, these investments position the company to accelerate innovation in aircraft propulsion technologies while contributing to the Dayton region’s long-standing leadership in aerospace research and advanced manufacturing.
